The Agribusiness in Agriculture Communications program at Southeast Missouri State University is designed to combine agricultural knowledge with modern communication and business skills, preparing students for diverse careers in both agriculture and media-related fields. The curriculum begins with foundational courses such as Agribusiness Orientation and Communicating in Agriculture, which introduce students to the industry and develop essential communication abilities. Students also build strong analytical and business skills through courses like Agriculture Business Data Analysis, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, and Agribusiness Finance. These subjects help students understand how agricultural markets function and how businesses in this sector operate effectively.To ensure a well-rounded agricultural background, students study core science-based subjects including Plant Science with lab, Animal Science, and Introduction to Horticulture. Safety and ethics are also emphasized through courses like Agriculture Safety and Agriculture Ethics, while seminars provide opportunities for professional development and industry exposure. Marketing and sales courses, such as Marketing Agricultural Products and Agribusiness Sales, prepare students to promote and sell agricultural goods in competitive markets.A key feature of the program is its focus on communication and media. Students take specialized courses like Social Media in Agribusiness, Agribusiness Communication, Digital Media Production, and Design for Media. These courses equip students with practical skills in content creation, visual design, and digital storytelling, which are essential for modern agricultural communication careers. Additional options in social media content creation, technical or strategic writing, and advanced media or public relations courses allow students to tailor their learning based on career interests.The program also includes experiential learning opportunities such as internships or undergraduate research, enabling students to gain hands-on experience. Supporting requirements in chemistry and mathematics further strengthen scientific and analytical understanding.
