COURSE CURRICULUM

The Interior Design program is an 87-hour major that does not require a minor and is designed to prepare students for professional careers in residential, commercial, healthcare, and hospitality design. The curriculum begins with foundational art and design courses such as drawing, 2D and 3D design, and digital literacy for art and design, which help students develop strong creative and visual communication skills. Students also study art history, computer-aided drafting, and technical drafting to build essential design and documentation abilities needed in the profession.As the program progresses, students gain specialized knowledge in interior design through courses in residential and commercial architectural drafting and design, interior systems, construction codes, design communication, materials for interior environments, lighting and electrical systems, and sustainable and multicultural design. The curriculum also includes focused study in housing perspectives, kitchen and bath design, and advanced design applications in healthcare and hospitality environments, preparing students for a wide range of industry sectors.Students further develop professional readiness through courses in professional practice, portfolio development, and an internship in interior design, which provides real-world industry experience. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, allowing students to apply design principles to practical projects and client-based work. A required portfolio review ensures students meet professional standards and are prepared for advanced study or entry into the field.Overall, the program combines creative development, technical training, industry knowledge, and professional experience.
