COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting at Southeast Missouri State University is an intensive 83-hour major with no minor required and a minimum 3.0 GPA requirement in the major. The program is designed to provide rigorous conservatory-style training focused on developing professional-level performance skills for theatre, film, and television.The curriculum includes foundational and advanced acting training through courses such as Acting I–IV, script analysis, auditioning, movement for the actor, voice training, stage combat, dialects, and acting styles. Students also gain experience in rehearsal and production work, theatre history, and acting for film and television, ensuring a well-rounded performance education. A senior portfolio and BFA project serve as capstone experiences, allowing students to demonstrate their growth and professional readiness.Students may also take courses in directing, playwriting, musical theatre performance, and technical theatre areas to broaden their artistic versatility. Additional training opportunities include internships or summer workshops, along with specialized electives in dance, musical theatre movement, voice for musical theatre, and advanced stage combat. A Shakespeare course is also required, strengthening classical performance skills.Overall, the program blends rigorous acting training, production experience, and professional development opportunities such as internships and portfolio preparation, equipping graduates for careers in theatre, film, television, and related performance industries.
