The Bachelor of Applied Technology program at Southeast Missouri State University provides a structured yet flexible curriculum that builds on a student’s prior technical education. The required courses focus on developing strong communication, technical, and managerial skills essential for modern industries. Foundational courses such as English Composition I and Technical Communication strengthen written and professional communication, while Industrial Safety and Science, Technology and Society help students understand workplace safety and the broader impact of technology. Courses like Industrial Supervision, Engineering Economic Analysis, and Projects in Industrial Engineering Technology (IET) prepare students for leadership roles, decision-making, and real-world problem solving in technical environments.Students also develop analytical and quantitative skills by choosing courses such as Statistical Process Control or Behavioral Statistics. Additional options in Manufacturing Research in a Global Society or Principles of Management allow students to focus either on global industrial systems or core business management concepts. The program further strengthens scientific and mathematical foundations through courses in chemistry or physics and precalculus, ensuring students have the technical background needed for advanced applications.A major strength of the program is its flexibility through specialization tracks. In the Applied Technology Electives track, students select 18 credit hours of upper-level technical courses in consultation with an advisor, allowing them to tailor their degree to areas such as manufacturing, construction, or engineering technology. Alternatively, the Allied Health track provides a pathway into healthcare-related fields, with courses in public health, healthcare management, nutrition, and community health.
