COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Music curriculum requires the completion of 50 to 54 credit hours and is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in music theory, history, performance, and practical skills, with a minimum grade of C required in all major courses. Students begin with core courses such as The World of Music, music history covering periods before and after 1800, and music fundamentals, along with progressive study in harmony, melody, composition, and orchestration. Aural skills are developed through multiple levels, helping students refine their listening, sight-singing, and musical interpretation abilities. Performance is a key component of the program, with students participating in applied music courses across multiple levels, recitals, and ensemble experiences, as well as attending concerts regularly to enhance their musical exposure. Piano proficiency is also required, supported by functional piano courses that build essential keyboard skills. In addition, students complete assessments such as the sophomore review and major field test to evaluate their progress.The program also offers flexibility through elective coursework, where students select 10 credit hours from a wide range of specialized topics, including digital media production, jazz studies, music history, music technology, songwriting, conducting, and pedagogy. These electives allow students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals, whether in performance, composition, teaching, or music production. Courses in music business and career development further prepare students for professional opportunities in the music industry. Overall, the curriculum combines theoretical knowledge, technical training, and performance experience, ensuring that graduates develop the skills and versatility needed for diverse careers in music or for pursuing advanced studies.
