COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Software Engineering (MSSE) requires a total of 33 units and is designed to provide advanced technical knowledge and practical skills in modern software development. The program begins with a 12-unit common core that includes Software Systems Engineering, Data Mining, and Enterprise Software Platforms, establishing a strong foundation in software design, data analysis, and enterprise systems. Students must also complete a 3-unit GWAR requirement through courses such as Computer Engineering Seminar, Master’s Project, or Engineering Reports and Graduate Research to develop technical writing and communication skills.Students then complete 6 units in a chosen area of specialization, selecting two courses from fields such as Enterprise Software Technologies, Cloud Computing and Virtualization, Software Systems Engineering, Networking Software, Data Science, or Cybersecurity, allowing them to build expertise in a focused domain. In addition, 9 units of approved electives provide flexibility to explore other advanced topics across engineering or science disciplines, with at least one elective required from a specialization outside the student’s primary area.The program concludes with a 6-unit culminating experience, where students choose between Plan A (Thesis) or Plan B (Project). The thesis option involves a two-part research thesis, while the project option includes a two-part applied project or a combination of project courses. Overall, the program integrates theory, hands-on learning, and specialization to prepare graduates for advanced careers in software engineering, system design, data science, and technology leadership.
