COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Packaging requires a total of 30 units and is designed to provide advanced technical knowledge, research skills, and practical expertise in packaging science and technology. The program includes 21 units of core courses covering key areas such as colloquium studies, issues in nutrition and packaging (which fulfills the GWAR requirement), biostatistics, and research methodology. In addition, students complete three specialized courses from options such as Package Design for End Use, Advanced Laboratory Testing and Analysis, Packaging Development and Management, and Advanced Materials and Testing, which build strong competencies in packaging design, materials evaluation, and analytical techniques. Students also complete 3 to 6 units of graduate electives selected in consultation with a graduate advisor, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific interests within the field. The culminating experience ranges from 3 to 6 units and can be completed through a thesis (Plan A), a project (Plan B), or a comprehensive exam option. The thesis option involves in-depth research, while the project or exam options focus on applied knowledge and practical problem-solving. Overall, the program integrates science, technology, and research to prepare graduates for advanced roles in packaging design, development, research, and management across various industries.
