COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program requires a total of 40 units and is designed to provide advanced clinical knowledge, research skills, and hands-on patient care experience for primary healthcare practice. The curriculum includes 19 units of core courses that build a strong foundation in advanced nursing practice, including Population-Based Health Care Systems, Theoretical Foundations, Advanced Health Assessment, Professional Issues for Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Clinical Pharmacology, and Advanced Physiology and Pathophysiology. Students also complete Research Methods, which fulfills the GWAR requirement and develops skills in evidence-based practice and clinical research.The FNP concentration consists of 18 units focused on specialized training in family nurse practitioner roles. Students complete a sequence of theory courses (FNP Concepts and Theory I, II, and III) alongside three practicum courses that provide progressive clinical experience. These practicums (I, II, and III) allow students to apply theoretical knowledge in real healthcare settings, develop diagnostic and treatment skills, and gain experience managing patient care across the lifespan.The culminating experience is 3 units and is completed through a Master’s Project (Plan B), where students integrate their academic and clinical learning into a final applied project. Overall, the program combines rigorous coursework, extensive clinical training, and applied research to prepare graduates for certification and professional practice as family nurse practitioners in diverse healthcare environments.
