COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Financial Analytics (MSFA) is a 30-unit graduate program designed to develop advanced knowledge and practical skills in corporate finance, financial analysis, and data-driven decision-making. The program is structured into three main components: core courses, electives, and a culminating experience, all aimed at preparing students for professional careers in finance and business analytics. The core curriculum consists of 21 units that provide a strong foundation in financial theory, accounting, and analytical tools. Students begin with BUS 200F, which focuses on leadership communication skills for finance professionals, followed by BUS 220 Financial Accounting and BUS 220A Financial Statement Analysis, which build essential skills in interpreting and evaluating financial data. Additional core courses include BUS 265F Silicon Valley Experience for Finance Professionals, BUS 270 Financial Management, BUS 270A Financial Planning and Analysis, BUS 270C Financial Modeling and Data Visualization, and BUS 270E Advanced Corporate Finance, all of which emphasize corporate financial decision-making, strategic planning, and the use of modern analytical techniques. In addition to the core requirements, students complete 6 units of electives by selecting two courses from options such as BUS 270F Corporate Finance Analytics, BUS 222 Profit Planning and Control, BUS 270B Financial Derivatives for Corporate Finance, and BUS 273 Business Valuation, allowing for specialization in areas like valuation, derivatives, and advanced financial analytics. The program concludes with a 3-unit culminating experience, BUS 270D Case Studies in Corporate Finance (GWAR), where students apply their knowledge to real-world business scenarios and demonstrate their ability to analyze complex financial problems.
