COURSE CURRICULUM
The Master of Science in Engineering Technology program requires a total of 30 units and is structured to provide students with advanced technical, analytical, and managerial skills for improving industrial and organizational systems. The curriculum is divided into required core courses, a specialization area, approved electives, and a culminating experience.The required core consists of 9 units. Students take TECH 200 (Research Methods for Engineering and Technology, GWAR), which develops research and analytical writing skills for technical fields. They also complete TECH 230 (Six-Sigma and Continuous Improvement Systems Management), which focuses on process improvement and quality enhancement methods, and TECH 233 (Design and Analysis of Experiments), which builds skills in statistical experimentation and data-driven decision-making.Students then choose a 9-unit specialization in either Smart Manufacturing or Applied Network Systems. The Smart Manufacturing track includes courses such as measurement systems, product management, artificial intelligence applications in manufacturing, laser-based production processes, and advanced welding technologies. The Applied Network Systems specialization focuses on systems reliability, software quality assurance, and computer/network auditing, preparing students for roles in IT systems, cybersecurity, and network management.In addition, students complete 6 units of approved electives, selecting two courses from options like database systems, blockchain technology, industrial IoT, machine learning applications, data science in industrial systems, quality systems management (ISO standards), software quality assurance, cybersecurity operations management, or other approved graduate-level courses from related departments.Finally, the program includes a 6-unit culminating experience, which can be completed through either Plan A (Thesis) or Plan B (Project). Plan A requires TECH 299 (Master’s Thesis), while Plan B consists of TECH 295A and TECH 295B, focusing on a structured engineering technology project.Overall, this program is designed to prepare graduates for advanced roles in manufacturing, smart systems, network technologies, and industrial innovation by combining research methods, quality systems, and emerging technologies.
