COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) at SJSU is a 33-unit graduate program designed to prepare students for advanced technical and research roles in areas such as semiconductor devices, communications, control systems, computing, and emerging fields like artificial intelligence and quantum computing. The curriculum is structured to combine foundational theory, specialization, and applied research. Core requirements include technical writing and engineering ethics (EE 295, which also fulfills the GWAR requirement), along with two advanced technical courses chosen from areas such as linear systems, semiconductor devices, probability and stochastic processes, or advanced computer architectures. Students then select a 9-unit area of specialization aligned with their interests, which may include fields like power electronics, signal processing, embedded systems, robotics, communications, or machine learning. An additional 9 units of advisor-approved electives allow further depth or interdisciplinary study. The program concludes with a 6-unit culminating experience, which can be completed either as a thesis (Plan A) or a project (Plan B), involving proposal development and final research or applied engineering work. Overall, the degree emphasizes strong theoretical foundations, specialization in modern electrical engineering domains, and hands-on problem-solving skills to prepare graduates for industry or research careers.
