COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Clinical Psychology program requires the completion of 60 units and provides extensive academic and clinical training in mental health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. The core curriculum consists of 48 units and covers a wide range of topics essential for professional practice. Key courses include PSYC 203 (Clinical Assessment), which fulfills the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR), along with PSYC 210 (Advanced Psychopathology), PSYC 211 (Child Psychopathology), and PSYC 212 (Lifespan Development), which build a strong understanding of psychological disorders across different age groups. Students also study therapeutic approaches through courses such as PSYC 258 (Methods of Psychotherapy), PSYC 260 (Crisis and Trauma Counseling), and PSYC 265 (Advanced Treatment Application).The program emphasizes cultural competence and ethical practice, with courses like PSYC 222 and PSYC 223 focusing on multiculturalism, diversity, and inclusive clinical practice, as well as PSYC 228 (Professional Ethics). Practical training is a major component, with students completing PSYC 224A and 224B (Clinical Practicum I and II), where they gain supervised experience in real clinical settings. Additional coursework includes family therapy, group dynamics, addictions treatment, and contemporary family psychology.The culminating experience requires 6 units of PSYC 298 (Special Problems), taken twice, allowing students to integrate and apply their learning in a focused project or research activity.
