COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Biotechnology is a 36-unit interdisciplinary program that combines advanced scientific training with business and industry-focused education to prepare students for careers in biotechnology and medical product development. The program includes 29 units of core courses that provide a comprehensive foundation in both scientific and managerial aspects of the field. These courses cover topics such as biotechnology products, drug development processes, biotech business fundamentals, advanced molecular techniques, and company management. Students also complete MBA-level courses in organizational behavior and operations management, along with a required internship that provides hands-on experience in the biotechnology or medical device industry. Additionally, students must choose one specialized course in either advanced bioinformatics or stem cell techniques, allowing for some focused technical development.Students also complete 6 units of electives, selecting two courses from science or business options based on their career goals. Science electives include immunological techniques, independent biotechnology studies, and regulatory affairs for pharmaceuticals and biologics, while business electives consist of advanced MBA courses chosen in consultation with the program director. This flexibility allows students to tailor their academic experience toward research, technical, or management-oriented career paths.The program concludes with a 1-unit culminating experience in the form of a biotechnology colloquium, where students integrate and present their learning. Overall, the curriculum provides a balanced combination of scientific knowledge, business skills, and real-world experience, preparing graduates for roles in research, product development, regulatory affairs, clinical operations, and management within biotechnology, healthcare, and related sectors.
