COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Stem Cell Biology is a 32-unit graduate program designed to provide advanced training in stem cell research, regenerative medicine, and laboratory-based scientific investigation. The program includes 15 units of core coursework that build foundational skills in biological research and communication. These include BIOL 201 Graduate Seminar, BIOL 202 Graduate Studies in Biology, and BIOL 220 Science Communication, along with BIOL 297 Graduate Research, where students complete a total of 8 units through hands-on research experience. This core structure ensures that students develop strong abilities in scientific analysis, experimental design, and effective communication.In addition to the core, students complete 14 units of concentration courses focused specifically on stem cell biology and its clinical applications. These include Advanced Molecular Techniques, Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, and a laboratory course in stem cell biology, which provide both theoretical understanding and intensive lab experience. Additional courses such as Bench to Bedside in Regenerative Medicine, Community Outreach, and Patient Interactions help students connect scientific research with real-world healthcare applications, emphasizing translational science and public engagement.Students also complete 2 units of electives, allowing limited flexibility to explore related topics in molecular, microbial, or physiological biology, subject to advisor approval. The program concludes with a 1-unit culminating experience through BIOL 298, where students complete a project that demonstrates their ability to apply knowledge and research skills in a practical context. Overall, the 32-unit structure integrates coursework, laboratory training, and applied research, preparing graduates for careers in biotechnology, healthcare, and research, as well as for further doctoral studies in life sciences.
