COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s in Accounting and Analytics requires a total of 30 units and is structured into core courses, electives, and a culminating experience. The required core section includes 15 units of foundational coursework designed to build essential skills in accounting, analytics, technology, and professional communication. Students must complete BUS 220J, which focuses on business communications and ethics and satisfies the GWAR requirement, along with BUS 220U in information technology audit and BUS 220Z in advanced data science and analytics for accounting. In addition, students select two courses from a list that includes auditing concepts and practice, taxation of individuals and flow-through entities, data analytics for accounting, advanced financial reporting and analysis, and special topics in accounting. These courses ensure students gain both technical accounting knowledge and analytical capabilities relevant to modern accounting careers.The program also requires 12 units of electives, which allow students to specialize in areas of interest under the guidance of a graduate advisor. Elective options include subjects such as forensic accounting, accounting practicum, accounting ethics, financial statement analysis and valuation, tax research and decision making, taxation of business entities, accounting for income taxes, business law and ethics, negotiation and conflict management, and project management. This flexibility helps students tailor their studies toward careers in auditing, taxation, corporate finance, consulting, or related fields.The culminating experience consists of 3 units in BUS 220A, which focuses on financial statement analysis and serves as a capstone or project-based requirement. Students must carefully plan elective coursework in consultation with an advisor to ensure academic and career alignment. Up to 15 units of upper-division undergraduate coursework may be applied toward the master’s degree. To graduate, students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in both the program and overall university requirements, ensuring consistent academic performance throughout the degree.
