COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Health (MPH) in Community Health Education requires 42 to 48 units and provides comprehensive training in public health theory, research methods, and community-based practice. The program includes 37 units of required coursework covering key areas such as quantitative and qualitative research methods, evaluation techniques, health policy, environmental health, health promotion planning, community organization, multicultural communication, and public health leadership, with Health Promotion Planning and Evaluation fulfilling the GWAR requirement. These courses build strong analytical, program planning, and leadership skills essential for addressing public health challenges. In addition, students complete a 5-unit practicum that includes fieldwork seminars, hands-on practicum experience, and professional development courses, allowing them to apply classroom knowledge in real-world community settings. The culminating experience varies by program format: hybrid/online students complete a comprehensive exam with no additional units, while campus students may choose either the comprehensive exam or a graduate project option, which requires an additional 3 to 6 units. Overall, the program integrates academic coursework, field experience, and applied learning to prepare graduates for careers in community health, program development, policy advocacy, and public health leadership.
