COURSE CURRICULUM

The Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) RN-to-BSN pathway between Evergreen Valley Community College and San José State University is a structured dual-admission program that allows students to transition efficiently from an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). The program is designed to integrate prior nursing education with upper-division university coursework, enabling students to complete both licensure and bachelor’s-level requirements in a streamlined format totaling 120 units. Students enter the program with approximately 60 transferable units and complete additional academic and clinical requirements through both institutions. A significant portion of the curriculum is fulfilled through Evergreen Valley Community College’s ADN program, contributing about 70 units of lower-division nursing education, while students also earn 20 units of credit through successful completion of the NCLEX-RN examination, which is required for registered nurse licensure. At the university level, students complete a series of upper-division nursing courses totaling 24 units, including evidence-based practice writing, theoretical foundations, professional practice development, community health theory and practicum, leadership, and a senior preceptorship. These courses are designed to strengthen clinical reasoning, research application, leadership skills, and population health competencies. Students may also complete a small number of university elective units as part of the degree requirements. The program emphasizes continuity between community college nursing education and university-level advancement, ensuring that students are prepared for both immediate professional practice as registered nurses and long-term career growth through bachelor’s-level preparation. Overall, the CEP RN-to-BSN pathway provides an efficient, integrated route that combines licensure, clinical experience, and advanced nursing education into a single coordinated academic plan.
