COURSE CURRICULUM

The BS Meteorology and Climate Science program is designed to prepare students for careers in weather forecasting, climate analysis, environmental consulting, or graduate study in atmospheric sciences. The curriculum combines strong foundations in chemistry, mathematics, physics, and computing with specialized meteorology coursework. Students begin with major preparation in general chemistry, calculus through multivariable calculus, and physics, which builds the scientific and mathematical base needed for advanced atmospheric study. The core major includes courses in weather and climate systems, dynamic and physical meteorology, climatology, atmospheric instrumentation, statistics, and computer applications in meteorology. Students also gain practical experience through weather briefing, forecasting analysis, and a senior thesis component. Upper-level electives allow specialization in areas such as air pollution, remote sensing, hydrometeorology, fire weather, climate modeling, and boundary layer processes. Communication skills are reinforced through a writing-intensive meteorological reports course. Overall, the program develops analytical, computational, and observational skills needed for professional meteorology roles and further academic research in climate and atmospheric sciences.
