COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies requires a total of 120 units and is designed to build strong scientific, analytical, and environmental problem-solving skills. The program begins with 24 units of major preparation courses in biology, chemistry, environmental science, mathematics, physics, and statistics, which provide a strong foundation in natural sciences and quantitative reasoning. The major requirements total 73 units and include core courses such as Introduction to Environmental Issues, Environmental Research and Writing, Environmental Economics and Policy, Resource Analysis, Human Ecology, Environmental Law, Environmental Impact Analysis, and a Senior Seminar, ensuring students gain both theoretical understanding and applied knowledge of environmental systems and policy. Students also complete major electives, including field-based and applied courses in areas such as wetlands, sustainable agriculture, forest ecology, environmental restoration, coastal studies, water resource management, and advanced environmental impact analysis, allowing for hands-on learning in real-world environmental settings. In addition, students complete upper-division general education courses that expand their interdisciplinary understanding of environmental thought, global development issues, and environmental systems. The program also includes advisor-approved electives and a required minor, enabling students to specialize in a complementary field and strengthen their career preparation. Field experience and internships are encouraged to provide practical exposure to environmental work environments. Overall, the degree prepares students for careers in environmental science, conservation, sustainability, resource management, environmental consulting, and policy analysis, as well as for graduate study in environmental and related scientific disciplines.
