COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biochemistry concentration is a structured 120-unit undergraduate program designed to build a strong foundation in both biology and chemistry while preparing students for advanced study and professional careers in medicine, biotechnology, and laboratory sciences. The degree begins with major preparation courses in biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and scientific communication, ensuring students develop essential quantitative and conceptual skills before progressing into upper-division work. Core preparation includes general biology, genetics, calculus, organic chemistry, physics, and ethics in science, alongside laboratory-based training that introduces experimental methods and scientific reasoning. The major requirements are centered on advanced chemistry coursework such as general chemistry, quantitative analysis, organic chemistry sequences, physical chemistry, chemical safety, and writing in chemical communication, which together build technical expertise and analytical capability.
