COURSE CURRICULUM
The Human Resource Management (HRM) concentration within the Business Administration BS program follows a structured 120-unit curriculum designed to combine general education, core business foundations, and specialized HR-focused coursework. Students begin with lower-division general education requirements alongside American Institutions and foundational writing, mathematics, and communication courses. Major preparation includes key subjects such as macroeconomics, microeconomics, critical thinking and writing, and business mathematics, with flexibility to substitute equivalent calculus-based coursework. Writing-in-the-disciplines courses such as business communication are also required to strengthen professional communication skills. The core business curriculum introduces essential disciplines including financial and managerial accounting, business statistics, legal environment of business, computer tools for business, and introductory business concepts. Upper-division business courses build a comprehensive understanding of marketing, operations management, organizational behavior, finance, business analytics, global business environments, strategic management, and business ethics, ensuring students develop a well-rounded management perspective applicable across industries. The HRM concentration itself consists of 18 units focused on human resource management practices, requiring completion of courses such as fundamentals of HR management, workforce planning, staffing and training, employment law, compensation and reward systems, and a senior seminar that integrates HR knowledge. Students also choose an additional elective in areas such as labor relations, HR analytics, diversity management, or performance management, allowing specialization in a particular HR domain. University electives provide additional flexibility for interdisciplinary study or skill development. Throughout the program, students must maintain minimum grades (typically C- or better in concentration courses and C or better in key foundation subjects) to ensure academic readiness and professional competency. Overall, the HRM program prepares graduates for careers in human resources, recruitment, training and development, labor relations, compensation analysis, and organizational development across private, public, and nonprofit sectors, emphasizing strategic workforce management in a rapidly changing global business environment.
