COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting Information Systems (AIS) is a 120-unit degree designed to prepare students for careers that combine accounting knowledge with information systems and technology skills. The program begins with major preparation coursework in macroeconomics, microeconomics, critical thinking and writing, and mathematics for business, along with a writing-in-the-disciplines requirement that strengthens professional communication. Students then complete a core business foundation that includes financial accounting, the legal environment of business, business statistics, computer tools for business, and a first-year business experience course. Advanced business coursework builds broader managerial and analytical competence through studies in marketing, operations management, organizational behavior, finance, business analytics, global business, business systems and policy, strategic management, professional ethics, and global perspectives.The AIS concentration requirements consist of 27 units, focusing on the integration of accounting principles with information systems and technology applications. Students complete foundation courses in accounting information systems, network environments and accounting controls, IT auditing topics, programming and systems development in AIS, and both intermediate and managerial accounting. These courses provide strong training in how financial data is managed within computerized systems and how organizations design and evaluate accounting information systems for accuracy, efficiency, and security. Students also select one elective in areas such as taxation, forensic accounting, auditing, or corporate financial management to further specialize their expertise.The program emphasizes both technical and analytical skills, ensuring students can understand accounting processes while also working with modern information systems and data environments. A minimum grade of C is required in all concentration and key business courses, and students must maintain a 2.0 GPA in business coursework. University electives allow additional flexibility for academic exploration.Overall, the AIS concentration prepares graduates for careers in accounting technology, internal auditing, IT audit, forensic accounting, risk management, and systems consulting.
