COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering requires a total of 122 units and combines a strong foundation in mathematics, physical sciences, biology, and engineering with specialized biomedical engineering coursework. The program is designed to prepare students for careers in the biomedical industry, medical device development, healthcare technology, and graduate study in engineering or related fields.The major preparation phase (45 units) builds core scientific and engineering knowledge. Students complete courses in biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, calculus through multivariable calculus, differential equations, physics (mechanics and electricity/magnetism), and foundational English composition and communication. This stage ensures students develop strong analytical, mathematical, and scientific reasoning skills necessary for advanced engineering study.The major requirements (62 units) include both core engineering courses and advanced biomedical engineering subjects. Early courses introduce engineering design, statics, and communication in engineering practice. Students then progress into specialized biomedical engineering topics such as biosensors and bioinstrumentation, biotransport phenomena, biomechanics, biomedical polymers, medical product development, and regulatory requirements.A key feature of the program is its emphasis on design and professional preparation.
