COURSE CURRICULUM

The Aerospace Engineering Bachelor of Science program is a structured 120-unit degree that combines foundational education with specialized engineering training. The curriculum includes lower division general education requirements, many of which are fulfilled through major coursework in science, mathematics, and communication. Physical education and some general education components are waived or integrated, allowing students to focus more on technical subjects. The program begins with 36 units of major preparation, where students build a strong base in calculus, differential equations, chemistry, and physics, along with introductory engineering mathematics. All these courses require a minimum grade of C or better to ensure students are adequately prepared for advanced topics.The major requirements, totaling 66 units, include core engineering courses such as circuit analysis, programming, computer-aided design, and engineering communication. Students then progress into advanced aerospace subjects like aerodynamics, propulsion, flight mechanics, structural analysis, control systems, and aerothermodynamics. These courses provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for designing and analyzing aerospace systems. Students must also complete a numerical methods or simulation course, choosing from areas such as computational fluid dynamics or finite element analysis.In the final stage of the program, students undertake a capstone design project, selecting either aircraft design or spacecraft design. This hands-on experience integrates knowledge from previous coursework and emphasizes real-world engineering challenges, teamwork, and problem-solving. Additionally, students complete technical electives, allowing them to explore specialized topics such as space systems, astrodynamics, manufacturing, or advanced physics. Some electives may even be taken at the graduate level for qualified students.Overall, the program is rigorous and comprehensive, ensuring that graduates develop strong analytical, technical, and design skills. It prepares students for careers in aerospace engineering as well as for advanced studies, while maintaining strict academic standards through its grading requirements.
