COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Economics is a 120-unit program designed to develop strong analytical, quantitative, and critical thinking skills through the study of economic theory and its real-world applications. The degree includes a balanced structure of general education, major preparation, core economics coursework, upper-division electives, and university electives or a minor, allowing students flexibility to tailor their academic path while building a solid foundation in economics.The major preparation consists of introductory statistics and calculus courses that provide essential mathematical and data analysis skills needed for advanced economic study. The core requirements include foundational courses in microeconomics and macroeconomics, followed by advanced training in microeconomic and macroeconomic analysis, econometrics, and research methods. A writing workshop in economic reports strengthens students’ ability to communicate complex economic ideas effectively. Students also complete a capstone experience through courses such as history of economic thought or economic perspectives on Nobel laureates, which integrates and applies their learning.A significant portion of the degree is devoted to upper-division economics electives, allowing students to explore specialized topics or pursue a concentration in areas such as data analytics by selecting designated courses in econometrics, applied economics, and advanced analysis. These electives enable students to deepen their expertise in specific subfields of economics based on their career interests.In addition, students complete university electives or a minor, often in related fields such as business, finance, data science, or public policy, further enhancing their interdisciplinary skills.
