COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Smart Cities Construction Management at RIT is a 30-credit graduate program designed to prepare students for leadership roles in construction management, infrastructure development, urban planning, and smart city systems by combining traditional construction management principles with modern data-driven and technology-enabled approaches. In the first year, students begin with Transportation and Construction Leadership and Management along with a Smart Cities, Transportation, and Construction Seminar, while also taking two concentration courses that allow them to build specialized knowledge in areas related to construction, infrastructure, or urban systems. In the spring semester, students continue with Transportation and Construction Industry Dynamics and Smart Cities Infrastructure Monitoring, which focus on real-world construction systems, industry practices, and the use of technology to track and improve infrastructure performance, along with an additional concentration course and either a project-based or thesis-oriented experience in Smart Cities Infrastructure Data Analytics. In the second year, students take a professional elective and complete either a Graduate Project or a Thesis, depending on their chosen pathway, allowing them to apply their learning to real-world challenges in smart infrastructure and urban systems. Overall, the program emphasizes the integration of engineering, construction management, and digital technologies such as IoT and data analytics to design and manage sustainable, efficient, and intelligent urban environments, preparing graduates for careers in construction firms, government agencies, infrastructure companies, and urban development organizations.
