COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Imaging Science is a 30-credit graduate program designed to provide advanced training in the science and engineering of imaging systems. The curriculum prepares students for careers in areas such as computer vision, remote sensing, medical imaging, aerospace imaging systems, and computational imaging by combining theoretical foundations with applied research.The program is structured around a thesis-based pathway that emphasizes both coursework and research experience. In the first year, students begin with core foundations including graduate seminar courses and Image Processing and Discrete Fourier Methods, which build essential skills in digital image analysis and signal processing. Students also select electives in imaging science topics such as noise and system modeling, radiometry, the human visual system, computer vision, and optics for imaging. These courses provide a strong interdisciplinary foundation that integrates physics, mathematics, engineering, and computer science.In the spring semester of the first year, students continue advanced coursework while beginning their research and thesis work. This early introduction to research allows students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world imaging problems. Additional electives further deepen expertise in specialized imaging domains, enabling students to tailor the program to their academic or professional interests.During the second year, students focus more heavily on independent research through continued enrollment in thesis credits while completing a small number of advanced electives. This stage is dedicated to developing, executing, and refining a research project under faculty supervision.Overall, the program emphasizes flexibility, technical depth, and research-driven learning. Students gain strong analytical and computational skills while working across multiple imaging disciplines, including optics, computer vision, and system modeling.
