COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Experimental Psychology at Rochester Institute of Technology is a 30-credit graduate program designed to provide advanced training in research methods, statistical analysis, and human behavior. The curriculum is structured over two years and offers flexibility through two tracks: experimental psychology and engineering psychology. This allows students to tailor their studies based on their career interests, whether in academic research, applied psychology, or human factors and usability-focused fields.In the first year, students build a strong foundation in quantitative and research skills through Graduate Statistics and Graduate Research Seminar, along with elective coursework from psychology and institute-wide options. Students also choose between track-specific courses such as Graduate Engineering Psychology for those in the engineering psychology track, or specialized experimental psychology electives. The spring semester emphasizes research methodology and applied skills through courses like Applied Psychology Methods or Graduate Research Methods. Students also begin preparing for their culminating experience by selecting either a thesis proposal or additional advanced electives depending on their chosen pathway.In the second year, students deepen their expertise through additional electives and focus on completing their culminating experience. Thesis-track students complete a full research thesis through PSYC-753, while non-thesis students complete a Graduate Psychology Capstone project. This flexible structure ensures that students can pursue either research-intensive or applied career paths. Overall, the program equips graduates with strong analytical, experimental, and statistical skills, preparing them for careers in research, human factors, UX design, and for further doctoral studies in psychology or related disciplines.
