COURSE CURRICULUM

The Color Science MS curriculum at Rochester Institute of Technology is designed to provide a balanced combination of foundational knowledge, advanced technical skills, and research experience over two years, totaling 30 credit hours. In the first year, students begin with core courses such as Principles of Color Science and Computational Vision Science, which introduce the scientific and computational foundations of color and visual perception, along with a course on historical research perspectives to understand the evolution of the field. Students also take a graduate elective to start building specialization. In the spring semester, the curriculum advances into more applied and analytical areas with courses like Color Physics and Applications and Modeling Visual Perception, complemented by training in research and publication methods. Another elective allows students to further tailor their academic focus based on their interests.In the second year, the program shifts strongly toward independent research and specialization. During the fall semester, students enroll in Research and Thesis while continuing with an additional elective to deepen their expertise in a chosen area. The spring semester is primarily dedicated to completing the thesis, where students apply their accumulated knowledge to conduct original research in color science. This structure ensures that students not only gain strong theoretical and technical foundations in areas such as color physics, vision science, and computational modeling but also develop critical research skills. By the end of the program, graduates are well-prepared for careers in research, technology, and industry or for pursuing further academic study.
