COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Glass is a two-year, 60-credit graduate program focused on advanced studio practice, conceptual development, and technical mastery in glass art. The curriculum is designed to help students develop a strong personal artistic voice while gaining professional-level skills in glassmaking and contemporary studio practice.In the first year, students focus on foundational studio development through Glass Graduate Studio: Concepts and Glass Graduate Studio: Practice, which together form the core hands-on learning experience. These courses emphasize both idea development and technical execution in glasswork. Students also take Technology in the Studio, which introduces tools, methods, and technical systems used in contemporary studio practice, and Ideation and Series, which supports the development of cohesive bodies of work. Studio Art Research strengthens conceptual and critical thinking skills, while open and professional electives allow exploration of additional artistic or interdisciplinary areas.In the second year, the program shifts toward professional development and thesis preparation. Students take Business Practices for Studio Artists, which focuses on career development, exhibition planning, and navigating the art world. Research and Thesis supports the development of an independent artistic project, while Research Methods and Publication enhances documentation and communication of artistic work.The program culminates in the MFA Thesis, where students complete a significant body of glass artwork and present it in a final exhibition. This thesis represents the integration of technical skill, conceptual depth, and personal artistic identity developed throughout the program.Overall, the Glass MFA prepares graduates for careers as professional studio artists, educators, and creative practitioners.
