COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology BS curriculum at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) for 2025–2026 is a 124-credit, four-year program designed to provide a strong foundation in psychological science, research methods, and interdisciplinary study, while allowing flexibility through tracks and electives. In the first year, students are introduced to psychology through courses like Introduction to Psychology and begin building quantitative skills with statistics, alongside general education in arts, writing, and ethics. In the second year, the program becomes more research-focused, with courses in Research Methods I and II, along with biology and lab work to support understanding of the scientific basis of behavior. Students also begin pre-track and breadth courses, exploring different areas of psychology.In the third year, students move into more advanced study and specialization by selecting psychology tracks and additional breadth courses, while completing a junior seminar and general education immersion requirements. This stage allows students to focus on areas such as clinical, cognitive, social, developmental, or biopsychology. During the summer, students gain practical experience through an internship, co-op, or undergraduate research opportunity, helping them apply their knowledge in real-world or research settings.In the fourth year, students complete a senior capstone proposal followed by either a seminar or a senior project in psychology, which involves independent research or applied work. Additional track courses, electives, and open electives allow further customization of the degree.Overall, the curriculum integrates theory, research, and practical experience, preparing students for careers in mental health, research, human services, business, and technology-related fields, as well as for graduate study in psychology and related disciplines.
