COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering Technology BS curriculum at RIT is a five-year program designed to combine theoretical knowledge with strong practical and industry experience, totaling 128 credit hours. In the first year, students build a foundation in construction materials, introductory civil engineering concepts, physics, and calculus, along with general education courses in writing and arts. The second year advances technical understanding through subjects such as surveying, strength of materials, soil mechanics, chemistry, and engineering economics, helping students develop core analytical and problem-solving skills essential for the field.In the third year, students focus on applied civil engineering topics including hydraulics, structural analysis, land development applications, sustainability, and technical communication. This year also introduces mandatory co-op experiences, allowing students to gain real-world exposure through full-time industry work. The fourth year continues with advanced topics like structural steel design, foundation engineering, highway design, reinforced concrete, and water and wastewater treatment, along with general education immersion courses and electives to broaden knowledge.The fifth year emphasizes professional development through additional co-op experience and concludes with a capstone project where students apply their cumulative knowledge to solve real-world engineering problems. Overall, the program integrates classroom learning, laboratory work, and extensive co-op opportunities to prepare graduates for careers in construction, transportation, environmental systems, and infrastructure development, making them industry-ready professionals.
