COURSE CURRICULUM

The Political Science BS curriculum at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) for 2025–2026 is a 120-credit, four-year program designed to provide a strong foundation in political systems, global affairs, and public policy while allowing flexibility through electives and specialization tracks. In the first year, students are introduced to core subjects such as American politics and international relations, along with general education courses in mathematics, science, writing, and social perspectives, building essential analytical and communication skills. During the second year, students expand their understanding through courses like politics and the life sciences and cyberpolitics, while continuing political science electives and completing general education requirements, including immersion and ethics. In the third year, the focus shifts toward specialization, with students selecting track courses and additional program electives, alongside general education and open electives to broaden their academic experience. An optional summer study abroad or internship opportunity provides practical exposure and global learning. In the fourth year, students complete an advanced capstone course in political science, where they apply their knowledge to real-world issues through research and analysis, while finishing remaining electives and track requirements. Overall, the curriculum balances core political science knowledge, interdisciplinary learning, and practical experience, preparing students for careers in government, public policy, international relations, law, and related fields.
