COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems at Rochester Institute of Technology is a structured, four-year program that blends business fundamentals with data analytics, information systems, and management skills to prepare students for careers in business technology and digital decision-making. In the first year, students build a foundation in business and analytical thinking through courses such as Financial Accounting, Principles of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Information Systems & Technology, Applied Calculus, and introductory business communication and planning courses, along with core general education requirements. The second year expands students’ understanding of business operations and analytics with courses in Financial Management, Marketing Principles, Statistics, Data Literacy and Decision Making, Database Management Systems, and Organizational Behavior, helping students develop both technical and managerial perspectives. In the third year, the curriculum focuses more on applied information systems skills through courses like Systems Analysis and Design, Developing Business Applications, and MGIS electives, alongside Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility and operations management, preparing students to design and improve real-world information systems. Students also complete a required co-op experience, giving them practical exposure to industry environments. In the fourth year, students complete a capstone course in MIS that integrates their learning into a comprehensive project, along with Strategic Management, immersion requirements, general education electives, and additional open electives to broaden their academic experience.
