COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in International and Global Studies at Rochester Institute of Technology is a flexible, interdisciplinary program designed to help students understand globalization, international systems, and cross-cultural dynamics through a combination of language study, regional specialization, and thematic coursework. In the first year, students are introduced to global studies through foundational courses such as Global Studies (INGS-101), along with general education requirements in ethics, global perspectives, writing, mathematics, and electives that build a broad academic base. The second year focuses on developing language proficiency through Modern Language Intermediate I and II while students begin taking concentration electives in globalization and field specialization courses that deepen their understanding of global systems and issues. In the third year, the curriculum emphasizes analytical and applied learning through methods courses, additional field specialization electives, and an advanced study option, supported by general education immersion courses that encourage interdisciplinary exploration. The fourth year allows students to apply their knowledge in a capstone experience such as a senior research project, capstone seminar, or discipline-specific final project, alongside additional field specialization and general education electives to complete the degree. Throughout the program, students also engage in concentration studies, methods-based learning, and global perspectives that explore political, social, cultural, and economic transformations around the world.
