COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Individualized Program at Rochester Institute of Technology is a highly flexible, student-designed degree that allows learners to build a personalized academic pathway by combining multiple areas of study into a single, customized major. The 2025–2026 curriculum is structured to provide a balance between general education, individualized concentration courses, and guided academic support over four years.In the first year, students begin with foundational general education courses in writing, social sciences, mathematics, and electives while also starting their chosen concentration areas. The program includes the Individualized Study Seminar, which helps students understand how to plan and structure their personalized degree effectively. This early stage focuses on building academic direction and introducing interdisciplinary thinking.The second year continues strengthening general education requirements, including natural sciences, ethical perspectives, and mathematical studies, while students deepen their concentration coursework. Courses such as Paradigms & Worldviews and Individuals & Society encourage students to think critically about interdisciplinary connections between different fields of study.In the third year, students gain more independence in shaping their academic path. They complete global perspective and immersion courses while continuing to focus heavily on concentration subjects. At this stage, students begin integrating their diverse areas of study into a more cohesive academic direction aligned with their career goals.The final year emphasizes advanced specialization and synthesis of learning. Students complete additional general education electives, immersion courses, open electives, and concentration coursework.
