COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management at Rochester Institute of Technology is a career-oriented program designed to prepare students for leadership roles in the global hospitality, travel, and tourism industries. The 2025–2026 curriculum combines business education, operational training, and experiential learning to develop professionals who can manage complex hospitality environments such as hotels, restaurants, resorts, event companies, and tourism organizations. The program begins in the first year with a strong foundation in business principles, including financial and management accounting, microeconomics, macroeconomics, applied calculus, information systems, and business communication. In the second year, students transition into core hospitality subjects such as food operations management, lodging operations, food and beverage management, and customer experience fundamentals. At the same time, they continue building their business knowledge through marketing, organizational behavior, statistics, and global business environment studies, which help them understand how hospitality organizations operate within a competitive and international marketplace. The third year focuses on advanced hospitality operations and management concepts, including operations management, event and restaurant management, financial management, customer experience management, and business ethics. A required co-op experience during this stage provides students with valuable hands-on training in real hospitality settings, allowing them to apply classroom concepts to industry practice and build professional networks. In the final year, students engage in strategic-level learning through courses such as strategic management and hospitality project development, along with general education immersions and electives that broaden their academic and professional perspective.
