COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Game Design and Development at Rochester Institute of Technology is a 121-credit program that blends computer science, mathematics, and interactive media design to prepare students for careers in the game and simulation industries. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in programming, algorithmic problem solving, discrete mathematics, physics, and interactive media, while also developing skills in writing and social perspectives. This early stage focuses on both technical thinking and creative fundamentals needed for game development.In the second year, students advance into more specialized topics such as data structures, 2D and 3D animation, web technologies for game development, and interactive media design. Courses in calculus and ethics complement technical learning, while game design and real-time simulation courses introduce students to core industry practices. A cooperative education (co-op) experience during the summer provides hands-on industry exposure.The third year emphasizes deeper development in real-time simulations, game design, and advanced web-based interactive systems. Students also complete electives and immersion courses to broaden their academic and creative perspectives. A second co-op experience further strengthens professional skills and industry readiness.In the fourth year, students focus on advanced electives in game development and interactive media, along with additional general education requirements and open electives.
