COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science program offers a comprehensive and structured curriculum designed to build a strong foundation in biological, chemical, and environmental systems while developing practical and analytical skills. In the first year, students are introduced to core concepts through courses in biology, environmental science, and soil science, along with laboratory work that emphasizes hands-on learning. Foundational skills are further strengthened with general education courses in global perspectives, writing, and applied calculus.During the second year, the program deepens scientific understanding with general ecology, chemistry, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), while also exploring the relationship between environment and society. Students continue with advanced chemistry and field-based environmental science skills, complemented by courses in ethics and environmental policy or qualitative analysis. A cooperative education (co-op) experience is introduced, allowing students to gain real-world exposure in environmental settings.In the third year, students expand their expertise through organic chemistry, statistics, and specialized concentration courses tailored to their interests. Advanced topics such as conservation biology and ecological or hydrologic applications of GIS are covered, alongside general education requirements that enhance social awareness and interdisciplinary knowledge.The final year focuses on integrating knowledge and professional preparation. Students complete advanced courses in remote sensing and participate in a two-part capstone seminar, where they apply their learning to real-world environmental challenges. Additional concentration courses and immersion experiences allow for further specialization. The program concludes with an experiential learning requirement, ensuring graduates possess both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.Overall, this 123-credit program combines scientific rigor, fieldwork, technology, and policy studies to prepare students for careers in environmental management, sustainability, research, and related fields.
