COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electrical Engineering Technology BS curriculum at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is a five-year program totaling 127 credit hours, designed to emphasize practical, application-oriented engineering skills alongside core technical knowledge. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational concepts in digital systems, circuits, and engineering fundamentals, along with calculus and general education courses such as writing, ethics, and arts. This stage builds the groundwork for both theoretical understanding and hands-on technical skills.During the second year, students deepen their knowledge in circuits, digital systems design, microcontrollers, and electronic devices, while also studying physics and applied mathematics. Lab components are an important part of the curriculum, reinforcing practical learning and giving students direct experience with electronic systems and tools.In the third year, the program advances into more complex topics such as advanced electronics, signals and systems, and statistics. Students also begin immersion courses and electives to broaden their education. Cooperative education becomes a key component at this stage, providing opportunities to gain real-world industry experience and apply classroom learning in professional settings.The fourth year focuses on specialized subjects such as machines and transformers, communications electronics, digital signal processing, and control systems. Students continue with immersion and elective courses, further developing their technical expertise and problem-solving abilities.In the fifth and final year, students complete additional co-op experiences and finalize their studies with advanced topics like transmission lines, along with technical and open electives. Overall, the curriculum combines hands-on training, laboratory work, and industry experience, preparing graduates for careers in electronics, telecommunications, power systems, and applied engineering technology fields.
