COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics BS curriculum at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is a four-year program totaling 120 credit hours, designed to build strong analytical, quantitative, and economic reasoning skills. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of economics through courses in microeconomics and macroeconomics, along with statistics and calculus. General education subjects such as writing, ethics, arts, and science help develop a well-rounded academic foundation.During the second year, the program advances into intermediate-level study with courses in macroeconomic theory, econometrics, and data analysis. Students also begin exploring their chosen track, allowing them to specialize in areas like economic theory, environmental economics, or managerial economics. General education and elective courses continue to support broader learning and skill development.In the third year, students deepen their understanding of economics through intermediate microeconomic theory, international economics, and mathematical methods for economics. Additional immersion courses and electives provide opportunities to expand knowledge and refine interests, while a career preparation course helps students get ready for professional opportunities.The fourth year focuses on advanced track courses and electives, allowing students to specialize further and tailor their academic experience. The program concludes with a capstone experience, where students apply their knowledge through research, analysis, or practical projects. Overall, the curriculum combines theory, data analysis, and real-world application, preparing graduates for careers in business, finance, policy, and research, as well as for further graduate studies.
