COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Engineering Technology BS curriculum at RIT is a five-year, 126-credit program that emphasizes applied learning in electronics, embedded systems, and computing technologies, combined with extensive hands-on and industry experience. In the first year, students build foundational skills in digital and microcontroller systems, basic engineering principles, calculus, and general education courses such as writing, ethics, and arts. This stage introduces both hardware and computational thinking, preparing students for more advanced technical coursework.In the second year, the program deepens technical knowledge with courses in digital systems design, circuits, electronic devices, microcontroller systems, and physics, along with mathematics and general education requirements. Students begin to understand how hardware components and software interact within modern electronic systems.The third year focuses on more advanced topics such as networking technologies, computational problem solving, and signals and systems, along with statistics and immersion courses. During this year, students also begin their cooperative education experience, working in industry through full-time co-op placements that continue into the summer and later stages of the program, providing valuable real-world exposure.In the fourth year, students return to academic study with advanced courses like hardware description languages, digital signal processing, real-time operating systems, and embedded systems design, along with electives and immersion courses. The fifth year is centered on professional experience and application, including additional co-op work and a final capstone project in embedded systems design, where students integrate hardware and software to solve real-world problems.Overall, the program blends theoretical understanding with practical skills and extensive co-op experience, preparing graduates for careers in embedded systems, electronics, networking, and technology development across various industries.
