COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences at RIT is a four-year program designed to provide a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and statistics while allowing students to tailor their studies through program and professional electives. In the first year, students take introductory biology courses covering organisms, ecosystems, molecules, and cells along with general and analytical chemistry, applied calculus, laboratory work, writing, and general education requirements. This year builds essential scientific knowledge and laboratory skills needed for advanced study in biomedical sciences.In the second year, students move into more specialized coursework, including molecular biology, cell structure and function, and human anatomy and physiology. They also take statistics and continue chemistry coursework as part of a structured sequence. Alongside these science-focused subjects, students complete general education courses in arts, ethics, and global perspectives to support a well-rounded academic foundation.In the third year, students begin selecting program and professional electives that allow them to explore specific interests within biomedical sciences. These courses are combined with continued professional development and general education requirements, helping students build deeper knowledge in areas aligned with their career or graduate study goals. The fourth year continues this flexible structure, with additional program electives, professional electives, open electives, and immersion courses that allow students to further specialize and complete their degree requirements.Overall, the Biomedical Sciences BS totals 120 credit hours and emphasizes a strong core in biological and medical sciences supported by flexible electives. The program prepares students for careers in healthcare, biomedical research, pharmaceuticals, and related fields, as well as for graduate or professional study in medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, and other health professions.
