COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting program at RIT is a well-structured four-year curriculum designed to build strong knowledge in accounting, business, finance, and analytics while also integrating general education and professional development. In the first year, students study foundational subjects such as financial and management accounting, microeconomics, applied calculus, information systems, and business communication, along with introductory statistics and writing courses that strengthen analytical and communication skills. The second year expands into intermediate accounting and broader business areas including financial management, marketing, organizational behavior, business law, accounting information systems, and additional statistical training, helping students understand how accounting connects with modern business operations and technology. In the third year, students focus on advanced topics such as taxation, intermediate financial accounting, operations management, data analytics, ethics, and corporate social responsibility, while also completing immersive general education requirements and gaining real-world experience through a mandatory accounting co-op that provides industry exposure. The final year emphasizes advanced accounting and strategic knowledge through courses in cost accounting, auditing, and strategic management, along with remaining electives and general education requirements that allow students to customize their learning based on career interests. Across all four years, the program combines technical accounting expertise, critical thinking, problem-solving, and practical experience, totaling 124 credit hours.
