COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (M.S.) in Civil Engineering is a research-oriented graduate program designed for students with undergraduate degrees in engineering or the physical or natural sciences who wish to advance their expertise through specialized study and independent research. The program requires the successful completion of an approved set of advanced coursework, a 5-credit thesis, and a 1-credit graduate seminar, totaling 30 credits. The thesis must document an original, research-based investigation and demonstrate the student’s ability to apply analytical and scientific methods to address complex civil engineering problems. It must also receive approval from the student’s faculty adviser. The program offers flexibility for students to focus their studies in one of several recommended core areas, which represent distinct fields within civil engineering, allowing for in-depth exploration and professional specialization. By combining rigorous coursework with research experience, the M.S. program prepares graduates for careers in academia, government, consulting, or industry, as well as for further doctoral study.
