COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Biology at Rensselaer requires the completion of thirty credit hours of coursework, designed to provide both depth and flexibility in advanced biological studies. Students must complete a minimum of 2 credits and may include up to 9 credits in research, ensuring substantial hands-on experience in experimental design, data collection, and analysis. At least fifteen of the total credits, including thesis or project work, must be at the 6000 level, reflecting advanced graduate-level study, while the remaining credits must be at the 4000 level or above. Additionally, a minimum of fifteen credits must carry the BIOL or BCBP prefix, emphasizing the program’s focus on biology and biochemistry/biophysics. A central component of the program is the thesis or project, which requires students to conduct original research under faculty supervision, culminating in a scholarly report or professional project that demonstrates mastery of scientific methods and critical analysis.
