COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering (MANE) at Rensselaer requires a total of 30 graduate credits, including 6 credits earned through the master’s research project. All courses applied toward the degree must be at the 4000- or 6000-level, and no courses previously used to satisfy undergraduate degree requirements may count toward the graduate degree. Of the 24 non-project credits, a minimum of 12 must be at the 6000 level, while no more than 12 may be at the 4000 level. Students are required to take at least one 4000- or 6000-level MATH or MATP course, with MANE 5000 – Advanced Engineering Mathematics I also fulfilling this requirement. A minimum of 15 credits must carry the MANE prefix, though programs with fewer MANE credits must receive prior approval from the Graduate Program Director and the student’s adviser. Up to 9 credits may be taken from other departments within the School of Engineering or the School of Science, and a maximum of 6 credits from schools outside these areas may be applied with approval. Students may include up to 3 credits of Individual Project or Independent Study, which cannot be conducted with their graduate research advisor. Full-time students must register for MANE 6900 each semester and attend the required seminars, a requirement that does not apply to Co-Terminal Program students, ensuring a structured balance of coursework, research, and professional development.
