COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management and Homeland Security at Post University is a 120-credit program designed to prepare students for careers in emergency management, homeland security, and public safety by combining a strong foundation in general education with specialized knowledge and practical experience. The 60-credit general education curriculum develops essential skills in communication, critical thinking, mathematics, science, leadership, and the liberal arts through courses in College Writing, Literature and Composition, Introduction to Communication, Digital Skills, College Algebra, Statistics, ethics, history, social sciences, and fine arts, alongside open electives for broader exploration. The major, core, and concentration courses, totaling 51 credits, provide a comprehensive understanding of emergency management principles, risk and vulnerability assessment, disaster planning, emergency response, public health emergencies, crisis communications, and the history of terrorism and homeland security in the U.S. Students also explore specialized topics, including weapons of mass destruction response, crisis decision-making, and directed electives or concentration courses such as cybersecurity. Designated writing and critical communications courses, along with an internship and an emergency planning capstone project, ensure practical application of knowledge and skill development. Additionally, the College to Career Core, including College Success and Professional Success seminars, equips students with professional readiness and career skills. Graduates are prepared to assess, plan, and respond effectively to a wide range of natural and manmade crises, collaborating with stakeholders and employing ethical, informed decision-making in high-pressure environments.
