COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems at Post University requires 120 credits, including general education, core courses, electives, and concentrations. General education accounts for 60 credits, covering essential skills such as college writing, communication, digital skills, mathematics (college algebra and statistics), science, history, social sciences, ethics, and liberal arts. Leadership development is addressed through a required leadership course, Foundations of Leadership (MGT 203).The major core includes 51 credits focused on technical and professional skills. Key courses cover information technology fundamentals, programming principles, project management, IT security, networking, database management, and information resource management. Students complete an internship or a seminar in CIS and a designated technical writing course tailored to computer information systems. Directed electives (12 credits) allow students to deepen their expertise, with recommended courses in Python programming, software engineering, and data structures and algorithms.Students may also choose to specialize through one of several 12-credit concentrations or select additional directed electives. Concentrations include General Computer Information Systems, Computer Networking, Cybersecurity, and Software Development. The Computer Networking concentration covers hardware fundamentals, networking basics, router and switch configuration, and client/server technology. The Cybersecurity track focuses on network security, IT security quality management, risk management, and cloud computing. The Software Development concentration, offered online, includes programming in C++ or Python, advanced systems analysis, software engineering, and operating systems.Additionally, the program includes a College to Career core (6 credits) designed to support student success through seminars on college skills and professional development. This flexible program is designed to equip students with comprehensive technical knowledge, practical skills, and career readiness for a variety of roles in the evolving IT field.
