COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Biology at Post University requires 121 credits to complete and offers a comprehensive education in the life sciences through a structured blend of general education, major-specific courses, and specialized concentrations. The general education portion includes 61 required credits, covering subjects such as college writing, communication, digital skills, ethics in science and technology, mathematics including calculus and statistics, and foundational science courses such as general biology and labs. Liberal arts requirements include electives in history, social science, and fine arts. Students also complete 15 credits of open electives, with recommended courses for those pursuing the Pre-Health Track, including organic chemistry and BIO 160. The major core accounts for 39 credits and includes courses such as general biology II, general chemistry I and II with labs, physics I and II with labs, genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, evolution, and ecology. A required writing course in the sciences and a capstone experience through either an independent study or internship are also part of the curriculum. The College to Career Core contributes 6 credits with courses focused on academic and professional success. Students choose one of three concentrations totaling 12 credits: General Biology, Health Sciences, or Bioinformatics. The General Biology concentration involves four upper-level biology electives. The Health Sciences concentration includes anatomy and physiology I and II with labs, and microbiology with a lab. The Bioinformatics concentration combines statistics, programming in C++, data structures, and genomics, with prerequisite computer science courses required for advanced classes. This program is designed to prepare students for a wide range of careers in healthcare, biotechnology, environmental science, research, or further education in graduate or professional schools such as medicine, dentistry, or veterinary science. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning, scientific communication, ethical analysis, and practical experience through lab work and internships.
